May 2018

Greetings and welcome to our new newsletter. It is my hope, that with this newsletter we will be able to reach out to our membership and keep them informed of what is going on at their shrine.

We have had a very busy beginning to the year with much more to come; and would love to see more of you taking part in these events. So far this year we have had a Valentine’s Day Party and a St. Patrick’s Day Party. We also had a Brew Fest held at the Operating Engineers Hall in Crown Point, there was food, music and a lot of craft beers to taste and enjoy. Our thanks to Danny Martin and Theresa, Virgil and Brenda Clary, Bonnie Wilson and Robert Gaskill, Rick and Nelda Valle and our entire Divan for making these events a success.

A personal Thank you to David and Cathy Moss, who always seems to do most of the heavy lifting. The Annual Ladies Tea was held and was a huge success. The ladies enjoyed delicious food, tea and desserts served by the Nobles, and not a drop of tea was spilled, even though the power went off for a while. On April 22nd the Pipes and Drums Unit had their annual Quarter Auction, which is always a lot of fun. Coming up in May we will be having a Cinco De Mayo Party at the shrine featuring a Mexican Food Buffet with South of the Border Beer included in the $25 admission. On May 19th the Potentate and his Lady Beth invite you to the Potentate’s Ball to be held at the Avalon Manor Banquet Center in Merrillville, we will be eating drinking and dancing the night away for only $75.00. It will be a Rat Pack night of fun and good company with friends. If you have any questions on any of the events or would like to make a reservation, please contact Sue in the office (219) 872-0485.

We will be putting out an issue of the INKLING every month to help keep you better informed of what is going on at Orak. If you have any suggestions or input please use the newly installed suggestion box in the lobby (thanks to Don Elman) or contact the Editor. Jack Hartlerode at: jhartlerode32@comcast.net

July 2018

On a personal note I want to thank all who attended the Pote's Ball. Special thanks to Robert and Bonnie who did most of the heavy lifting. And all that helped them. I do want to comment on this years Grand Lodge. Our new Grand Master Carl Culman's theme is visibility.

Who are more visible than Shriners? Parade season is fez season. Good organizations attract good men.

Let's show our colors every opportunity we can!

I also have a surprise for you for June's stated. Along with some good grub. Please try to attend. We are getting into our summer mode. We have plenty on our schedule for June and July. Check the calendar and share the fellowship as only we know. And save the date July 28th.

Orak's All Unit - All Nobility SUMMER PICNIC. More to come!!!

August 2018

Well another month has passed. The shrine may be dark for the summer, but the activities are not. We all enjoyed an evening at the Railcats game, the weather was perfect and we had a really good turnout. The Railcats came through and won the game.

On July 28th we had a Family Picnic which was open to all Shriners and Masons. The Units are in parade mode for the summer, come on out and support the units or take part in one.

In August we will be kicking off the month with are Veterans appreciation picnic starts at 2:00. We also have the Orak Hospital Golf Outing on August 25th come out and support our Hospitals. Also on August 5th we will be having our annual Grinders Baseball game which is always a good time.
